What Is Purple Dragon Tequesta? Purple Dragon Tequesta is a family-friendly martial arts dojo in Tequesta, Florida, teaching the Purple Dragon Don Jitsu Ryu System founded by Grandmaster Professor Don Jacob. Led by Shihan Albert Andrews, 7th Degree Black Belt, and Sensei Candia Andrews, 4th Dan Black Belt, the dojo offers Kids Karate, Teen Martial Arts, Adult Martial Arts, Self Defense, Cardio Kickboxing, and family martial arts and personal training.

Grandmaster Professor Don Jacob
Soke and Founder of Purple Dragon Don Jitsu Ryu
Grandmaster Professor Don Jacob is the Soke, creator, and founder of the international martial arts system known as Purple Dragon Don Jitsu Ryu. He has studied and taught martial arts for more than five decades and currently holds a 9th Degree Black Belt in Don Jitsu Ryu.
Professor Don Jacob is one of the most respected and sought-after martial arts professionals in the world today. Through decades of teaching, research, training, and international experience, he is recognized as one of the most knowledgeable historians and practitioners in the martial arts community.
Grandmaster Professor Don Jacob has taught and demonstrated with great success in countries throughout the world, including England, Canada, the United States, Hawaii, Japan, Australia, Africa, Nepal, India, China, and across the Caribbean.
At Purple Dragon Tequesta, we are proud to teach the Don Jitsu Ryu System in alignment with the standards, philosophy, and teachings of Grandmaster Professor Don Jacob.
Shihan Albert Andrews
7th Degree Purple Dragon Black Belt
Shihan Albert Andrews is the owner and head instructor of Purple Dragon Tequesta Martial Arts Dojo. He has trained under Grandmaster Professor Don Jacob for more than 45 years, and he is deeply committed to teaching the Purple Dragon Don Jitsu Ryu System with discipline, respect, safety, and excellence.
Shihan Albert currently holds the rank of 7th Degree Black Belt in the Purple Dragon Don Jitsu Ryu System and is a former US Open World Karate Champion. He also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Surveying from the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and founded the Purple Dragon British Virgin Islands branch in 1990.
At Purple Dragon Tequesta, Shihan Albert teaches students of all ages, including kids, teens, adults, and families. He also shares martial arts instruction with students at Limestone Creek Elementary School. His instruction includes Don Jitsu Ryu Standard Style, self-defense, sparring, weapons, kata, fitness, philosophy, cardio kickboxing, and practical life skills.
Parents choose Shihan Albert’s classes because he teaches more than martial arts techniques. He helps students build focus, confidence, discipline, courtesy, respect, courage, and the non-quitting spirit needed for success in school, at home, and in life.

Sensei Candia Andrews
4th Dan Purple Dragon Black Belt
Sensei Candia Andrews has been training in Purple Dragon since 2000, beginning her journey at the Chaguaramas Branch in Trinidad under the late Sensei Matthew St. Martin. Before dedicating herself deeply to martial arts instruction, she spent 15 years circumnavigating the globe on a 40-foot wooden yacht, developing courage, resilience, discipline, and a true spirit of adventure.
Sensei Candia loves training, learning, and helping students discover their own strength. She teaches Don Jitsu Ryu, women’s self-defense, kickboxing, kata forms, weapons, and adult martial arts classes. Her favorite weapons include the Bo Staff, Sai, and Sword.
As a World Champion and experienced instructor, Sensei Candia is especially inspiring to adults, women, seniors, and students who may be starting martial arts later in life. Her teaching reminds every student that martial arts is not limited by age. With the right instruction, encouragement, and consistency, anyone can improve their health, confidence, balance, and self-defense skills.
